We're sorry!

Yeah, we've got some 'splainin' to do. Where have we been for the past... two weeks?! The sad truth is... nowhere! I'd like to say we've been on a cruise, or stranded on a remote island eating nothing but coconuts and fish, or... what I'd really like to say is we had our baby!

But none of that is true. We've just been stressed and losing our focus. Call me crazy, but I feel our focus coming back. We needed that strange and uneventful two-week stint to re-energize our blogging powers.

The Big Reveal: Lucy June's Nursery!

Have you ever spent days, weeks, months on a project for someone you've never met? Pete and I have been spending the last several months on thinking, designing, and decorating a room to impress Lucy June.

I thought it would be so easy! Just buy a bunch of cute baby stuff and put it in a room. It doesn't seem like you could go wrong with cute baby stuff, but yeah, actually, you can.

Saturday Junkin' Roundup

It's been a couple of weeks since Leslie and I have been out junking and thrifting together. I've been taking it on myself to hit up the thrift stores alone, but that doesn't always turn out great. I need my partner-in-grime there with me: she's got an eye for good junk, and I have, well, I'm there to carry it to the car.

Yesterday, we went to visit Leslie's grandma, who lives about an hour away. It took us about three hours to get there, though, because we went the long way--the crazy stretch of thrift stores, car dealerships, and fast food chains that is U.S. 19 north of Clearwater, FL.

Mother's Day: The Junebug Pendant

For the past month, I've been searching for the perfect Mother's Day gift for Leslie. In the past, we've celebrated Mother's and Father's Day with each other, because we're the parents of two very sweet cats and one crazy dog, but this is the first Mother's Day that we can celebrate as real, soon-to-be parents to a little human. Lucy June is due in the middle of next month, and Leslie has been pregnant like a champ for the last eight and a half months. I'm so proud of her for going through all this pregnancy stuff. It seems tough, but Leslie makes it look easy.

Becoming Craftmaster Pete

I've had a lot of time to think lately, and a lot of time to play chess. I've never been great at the game, despite being in the chess club in high school (yes, I was that cool), but I've been practicing a lot these past few weeks, playing on the computer, game after game on progressive levels of difficulty, trying to learn the intricacies and strategies that will turn me into a formidable competitor.

DIY: Scherenschnitte (Scissor Cutting)

Today we went on an adventure to downtown and, surprise surprise, we found something we couldn't live without. We were in a consignment store and Pete exclaimed, "Leslie, we have to get this 'sharingshit' for Lucy's bedroom!" Embarrassed, I looked back at him and whisper-yelled "Peter! What in the world are you talking about?"

Neither one of us knew what "sharingshit" was. My first impression was that it was something to teach our future daughter how to share. I mean, that is important...but what did this picture of Little Bo Peep have to do with sharing? Turns out that Pete just doesn't know how to pronounce German words like Scherenschnitte.

Junebug's Baby Shower

Yesterday was such an eventful day - the Kentucky Derby, Cinco de Mayo, Brooksville's first Blueberry Festival, and my baby shower! I probably should have picked a better date, but my amazing friends still showed up and we had a great time!

My mom hosted it, with a lot of help from Pete. Even though this isn't a baby blog, we'd still like to share our experience and some of our favorite things about the shower. We had so much fun decorating for it and you might find some ideas if you're planning one of your own.

Curse You Cursive!

Okay, I am taking some responsibility for this. I do want to make clear that I am not blaming a Hawaiian island, spoons, or my own general lack of attention (though, after a week of finals, that is a possible excuse). What I do want to share the blame with is cursive, a shamelessly deceptive writing style that will probably be obsolete in the future because robots don't have the technology to use it.

Here's what happened:

All Kinds of Hiccups

I can always tell when Lucy has the hiccups. My stomach moves like it has its own heart beat and then Lucy starts to do the hiccup dance. Turns out it's contagious because I got a hiccup of my own yesterday.

Do you remember my goal to work on my blog every day for 100 days? To keep track of my progress, I created Ellie the Elephant to color in for each day. Here's Ellie to this day:
